Host Family

Seacoast College Prep is seeking local families to be billet families. What is a billet family you ask? Billet families are the backbone of Junior Hockey.  Each season young men between 16 and 20 years old come to Seacoast College Prep from all over the USA, Canada, and Europe to continue their dream of playing hockey at the next level. Billet families provide a caring, supportive, family environment to be the home away from home for each of our players.  Billeting can be a very exciting and rewarding experience for those willing to open up their homes.

All players are to remember that their billets are there new home away from home and are expected to follow and adhere to the general rules and guidelines set forth by the hockey club. Respect for the billet family and their household is a priority and should not be taken for granted.

To qualify as a billet, families are required to provide a player with his own room from the start of training camp through the end of the season, and provide the player with his meals. In exchange, the families receive a stipend to help pay for groceries.

As a first time billet family and the Seacoast College Prep Billet Coordinator we had no idea what to expect.  What we experienced was rewarding and fulfilling for our entire family.  Our son has been part of the Spartan Youth Hockey program for the last 5 years as a developing goalie, so being matched with Paul Leger, the starting goalie for the Seacoast College Prep team could not have been a better fit.  Paul was mature, disciplined and driven to achieve recognition by college scouts to further develop his hockey ambitions.  But equally important in his decision, was to advance his education.  He was more than a role model for our son.  He became the older brother he doesn’t have, but now always will.  We are truly grateful to Paul for showing our son the hard work it takes to get the reward of playing at the collegiate level. As the parents, we tried to provide a supportive, structured environment for Paul to work toward his goal.  We feel especially gratified that he accepted a position at the University of Southern Maine, so we can continue to watch him develop in his hockey career and reunite this family from time to time over Sunday dinner.

Thank you for the opportunity of being part of the first team of the Seacoast College Prep organization. Our son’s experience was a very positive one. He was exposed to many different colleges and universities and the various opportunities that each offered. He learned how to live on his own while working, taking online classes and balancing training, practices and games. These will be fundamental skills he will continue using thought his lifetime.

This program exposed the players to many different physical and mental types of training to be prepared to play on the collegiate level. These experiences to name a few were yoga and spinning classes. Some he said were grueling, but these new exposures expanded his training program for his successful transition to becoming a college hockey player.

Josh has achieved his dream of becoming a college hockey player. He has committed to play hockey for Babson College next year. This college hockey program has been his first choice for over 3 years. Our family is grateful for the assistance and guidance that Coaches Mallett and Addesa have given Josh throughout this year. Thank you.

My billeting experience this year was amazing. I cannot thank the Legro Family enough for the warmth and comfort they provided me throughout the entire season. This past season was the first time I have lived away from home, the advice and thoughtfulness that the Legro family shared with me helped not only on but off the ice. The Legro family welcomed me into their family with open arms. I even learned how to build an outdoor rink. I cannot thank the Legro family enough for what they have meant to me. I was truly blessed to have them.
